ENTERED AS SECOND-CLASS MATTER AUGUST 20, 1928, AT ?H1 .'OST OFFICE AT TRYON. N. C. UNDER THE ACT OF CONGRESS. MARCH 3, 1879 (Eljc ®rgott jßatlu le Per Copy (The World’s Smallest Daily Newspaper) Per Copy le voi. 11. Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N C., MONDAY, JAN. 30, 1939 CURB REPORTER Majdr Bernard Sharp gave an interesting talk on Our National Defense at the Rotary club on Fri day at 1 p. m., at Sunnydale Log Cabin. A nearly perfect atten dance of Rotary turned out to hear the major whose studies of the international situation have made him a valuable speaker not only in Tryon but in Asheville, Spar tanburg, Belmont, Forest City and other communities where he has addressed civic meetings .... A real asset to Tryon and Polk county is Dr. W. P. Jackson, for mer field secretary of the Nation al Recreation Association who is teaching Our people, children and adults, how to play the old games and dances of our forefathers. Last Thursday he directed a group of people in folk dancing at the Parish House and those present were so interested that they imme diately formed a club to continue the study of these games and meet every two weeks. . . Dionysius said, “Let thy speech be better than silence, or be silent.” . . . . Editor C M. Perry Manville of the Tryon Chamber of Commerce has received a request from Bill Sharpe, news bureau manager of the State Department of Conser vation and Development asking for dates and information on the dog show, steeple-chase and horse show events, so that wide publicity could be given local activities. Mjr. Man ville has already mailed this in formation which was given out last week by the Riding & Hunt club at their annual meeting. Underprivileged Mothers Underprivileged children appeal to our instincts of humanity. Al ways underprivileged children have underprivileged mothers, if the mothers are living. To serve such mothers at a most critical time, at least six and sometimes seven free generalized health clinics are held each month in this county by the Polk County Unit of the American Women’s Hospital with special em phasis on Maternity Welfare and Infant Hygiene. These are held in ttiree centers, one every Tues day at 2 p. m., at St. Luke’s hos pital, Tryon; one at the Katherine Beatson House, Mlill Spring, at noon the First Thursday of each month, and the third at the Com munity House, Cooper’s Gap, at noon the second Thursday of every month, making six clinics usually except when five Tuesdays occur in a month as in January of this year, when the number goes to seven.—Contributed.
