Raleigh, Feb. I.—The joint Sen ate and House committees on Un employment Compensation last week considered the amendments to the Unemployment Compensa tion Law which had been recom mended Jby the State Advisory Council, approved by the Commis sion, by Washington authorities and by Governor Hoey, and intro duced in the General Assembly the week before. Committee members signified their approval of the bills, when slight changes were made in one section. Senator E. C. ory, of Rowan, and Representative R. Gregg Cherry, chairman of S'enate and House committees, re spectfully, named a sub-committee to make the changes. The bills provide for “merit rating” or “experience rating” for employer contributions on their payrolls, which looks toward stabi lization of employment and re warding regular and steady em ployers; for a proper handling of seasonable operations; for appeals of employers from decisions of the Commission to the courts, and oth er simplifying amendments. 2,200 persons attended the Presi dent’s Birthday Ball in Asheville on Monday.
