C., FRIDAY, Music Course Ends Next Tuesday We are becoming more and more musical’y enlightened with the progress of Miss Ball’s deight ful evenings. This last one was more enjoyed and better under stood, judging by the response of the audience, than any of the previous ones. The hour was spent with the pioneers of the Impres sionist school, and their basic link with the Romantic School were plainly indicated. Miss Ball play ed lovely examples from Deßussey, The Prelude, and Clair de Lune from the Burgomaster Suite. She also played the Sunken Cathedral with its impression of the chant ing monks, the beating waves and the reverberating notes of the mystic organ. The Prelude Sollen el was received with diverse opinions but the Desire and Poeme of Scriaben were exquisite and pleasing to the most untrained ear. Next Tuesday Miss Ball will conclude her series with the still later pioneers of the School of Realism which will include various countries. The course began with the Gregorian choirs of the middle ages, hearing for the first time the overtones echoing through the vast cathedrals. This led to the discovery of harmony and the course has been designed to show how modern composers have re turned to the old Gregorian church music and added new scales and chords and the less obvious over tones.—Contributed.
