Est. 1-31-28 Polk School Children Free of Adult T. B. County Health Officer Dr. H. C. states that of the 231 Polk county school children that have been X-rayed because of exposure to tuberculosis, 31 of them had childhood tuberculosis, but none of them showed evidence of tuber culosis in the advanced adult stage. With proper care and supervision these cases will be cured. The 200 other children having been exposed to it, but are at present free from it, will be re-tested and checked in three years. The Health Department is p-iving instruction to all persons affected so that proper preventive measures may be taken. Bill Appoints Trustees Os School Unit Raleigh, March B.—The senate committee on education has under consideration Representative Car roll P. Rogers' bill to appoint trus tees of the Tryon-Saluda adminis trative school unit. His bill, already passed the house would name Nelson Jackson, Jr., James Lankford and Douglas S. Blois of Tryon; Mae I. Flentye of Lynn, and A. M. Salley, H. G. Laughter and W. G. Egerton, Jr., of S'aluda to serve for a two-year term beginning at the expiration of the term of the present trustees. C., THURSDAY, MAR. 9, 1939 Results of First Games In two good games in the open ing round of the Polk County Basketball Tournament, Green’s Creek girls triumphed over Tryon by a 39 to 12 score. Cudd of Green’s Creek rang up twenty-five points to keep up her high scoring average. In the boys’ game for the night, Sunny View sprang an upset to down the Saluda boys by a 19 to 10 count. The game was marked by the fact that Smith, Sunny View center, at the beginning of the sec ond half, gave Saluua two points by ringing up a basket in the wrong goal. The games tonight will be held at the Saluda gym with the Saluda girls playing the Stearns girls of Columbus, at 7:30. This game will be followed by the game be tween the Green’s Creek and the Tryon boys. Bowling Results Bowling results of Wednesday’s games were unusually odd, inas much as both teams, the Trvon Country club and the Puddle Jump ers tied to the tune of 2,199 each. Chances are 1 to 1,000,000 for this to happen, it is said. High scorer for the evening was Slim Ward, with 220. The individual scores are as follows: Tryon Country cluh: C. N. Sayre. 462; Skm McClure, 457; Larry Brooks, 459; Cephus Owens, 390; Dr. Derby, 413. Total 2,199.
