Proclamation of Hospital Week « Among the institutions and or ganizations which benefit the citi zens of Tryon and Polk County, St. Luke’s Hospital has a unique claim upon their estem and sup port. Its service to the community is recognized by the Duke Founda tion and by the County, both of which appropriate funds toward its maintenance. Its Facilities are increasingly appreciated by those who are able to pay for their care, but more than half of the patients it revieves are able to re turn little but gratitude. Accidents? illness which cannot properly be cared for at home, childbirth and the need for minor and major surgical operations occur in the families of the rich and the poor, to citizens, sojourn ers and strangers. The doors of St. Lukes Hospital are open to all. To maintain the hospital for the current year, approximately $6,000 will be required, in addition to the sources of income which have been indicated. During the week com mencing March 26. St. Lukes Hos pital Association will call upon the citizens of Tryon and Polk County to contribute toward this amoq^it. Now, therefore, I, Ernest Mis sildine, Mayor of Tryon, do here by designate the week of March 26th as Hospital Week, and com mend to all citizens of Tryon the duty and privilege of supporting St. Luke’s Hospital.
