Est 1-31-28 TRYON, N C., TUESDAY, APRIL 11, 1939 CURB REPORTER Tax Lister Jesse Rhodes says that he will be at the old Town Hall on Maple street every day this week from 9 a. m., to 5 p. m. .... A number of visitors have complained of people opening their car doors with such force while parked near other cars that they scratch the sides of the neighboring car. That aint nice, especially if the other fellow opens his door against your nice new car. Then another thing that hurts is when a visitor abuses his privileges and parks across the parking lines. He thinks he’ll be there for only a few minutes. Then another car drives up and has to park wrong 1 ; pretty soon nearly a block is out of line, all because one or two car drivers were Careless, or ignorant, or just don’t give-a for pub lic safety, town rules or conve nience of others . . . Polk County Boy Scout Court of Honor will meet on Monday at the Parish House at 7:30. Public invited . . . Any old magazines? Major Ber nard Sharp is calling. He wants your magazines for distribution to people in the rural sections who have no reading material .... The Golden Gate Quartet of NBC, Radio City, N. Y., will be at the Tryon Colored school to night at 8:30, Stores To Close For Horse Show Tryon stores and business houses will follow custom and close their doors on Wednesday at one o’clock in order that all may have an op portunity to take in some part of the Tryon Horse Show. The Hound Show will be held in the morning. Tryon Bank & Trust Co., will close at 12 o’clock. The stores will reopen at 5 o’clock for one hour to enable housekeepers to make last minute purchases. State Publicity Officials Here Bill Sharpe and Bill Baker of the State Department of Conser vation and Development, Raleigh, will arrive in Tryon today for the Horse and Hound Show activities. The C&D department is in charge of the extensive program of ad vertising North Carolina to the world and' Mr. Sharpe and Mr. Baker are connected with the pub licity department, which already has advertised Tryon in bulletins and in their pictorial magazine. They are in Tryon this week through the co-operation of Presi dent E. Perry Manville of the Tryon Chamber of Commerce. In Tryon For Life Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hagel (Han sel Mieth) photographers for For tune and Life Magazines are here to shoot Tryon and the Horse and Hound Show activities. They took a number of scenes this morning.
