Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N C., WEDNESDAY, APR. 26, 1939 CURB REPORTER Dr. Fuldner has just received from his sister, a clipping from the Milwaukee Sentinel of last Friday. Has two scenes of Tryon Horse Show, one of Jo Jo Kimberly taking the jump with Sunrab and the other with Lefty Flynn pre senting the ribbon to Jack, Bob and Jo Jo in the parent-child class, while Ernst Mahler and Peter look on ... . Three more pictures appear in next Sunday’s Washing ton Times-Herald which has al ready appeared on local news stands. They show mountain scenery with the oxen, cart, hound and men all gathered around the fire, another of the cowboy taking the jump and another of Lefty Flynn talking to Judge Skidy Von Stade .... St. Agnes Guild which is gathering rummage now for a sale on Miay 6th, furnishes flowers twice a week to all the wards in St. Luke’s hospital .... Girl Scout Official Meets Leaders Here Mrs. Cushman, of Greenville, S. C., national official of the Girl Scout organization, addressed the Tryon Kiwanis club and a large number of guests including women members of the local Girl Scouts committee. Mts. Hersey of the Greenville, S. C., committee, Mrs. Continued on Page Three J. G. Newman J. C. Newman, 64, prominent farmer of Holbert Cove section near Saluda, died Tuesday after noon about 3 o’clock. Funeral ser vices will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Silver Creek Baptist church. The de ceased is survived by his widow, the former Miss Maggie Thompson, and the following children: Mlrs. Arnold Arledge of M*ill Spring: S. M. Newman of Tryon; Miss Geneva Newman of Richmond, Va.; J. W. Newman of Columbus; T. T. Newman of Rosman; Mrs. Wade Pace of Richmond; L. G. Newman and Miss Annie Lee New man of Saluda. Also eight grand children. Virginia Egerton Has Achievement Record Newspapers throughout the state are printing the picture of Miss Virginia Egerton of Mill Spring and a brief sketch of her achieve ment in 4-H' club work. Miss Egerton has just been selected with' three other students to rep resent North Carolina at the Na tional 4-H club convention which meets in Washington, D. C. There are over a million and a quarter of 4-H club members in the na tion and the election of Miss Egerton to represent North Caro lina is considered a high honor not only for herself but for Polk coun ty.
