N C., FRIDAY, APRIL 28, 1939 Librarian’s Report For Year of 1938-39 It is my pleasure to submit herewith the Library Report for othe Lanier library, for the past ):ar, from April 1, 1938 to April -1, 1939: The year has been a good one, with a marked increase in every department. The opening days have been very busy in the circu lation of books, both for adults and for children, in much aid in the selection of books given to borrow ers, and in the answering of refer ence questions. The Hoi en fading Room has been frequented more than ever. Some 35 periodical and two daily newspapers, mostlv gifts of gen erous fr ends, suoplying reading on all subjects. .Magar nes borrow ed from +he library have amount ed to 1,473. The circulation of books and magazines has increased from 14,664 for last year to 15,395 for <aJdiis year—a gain of 731. ' 2,527 Jlildren’s books have circulated -this year—a gain over last year. In the past few years the trend in reading has been steadily to ward less fiction and more non fiction. This has been noted in our library, with an increase in the reading of biography, travel, sociology and religion. January, February and March have had the largest circulation. The record circulation for one day was 209 on a Saturday in Miarch. / Owing to our changing popu lation the number of borrowers' cards varies from time to time. The record at present shows 347. Continued on Page Three Nelson Jackson, Chairman State Boy Scout District Nelson Jackson, Jr., vice-presi dent of the Piedmont Council Boy Scouts of America and a member of the Regional Committee of Re gion 6 comprising the states of North and South Carolina, Geor gia and Florida was re-elected to membership on the committee and as chairman of the N. C. District at a meeting of the Region held at O’Henry Hotel on Mionday and Tuesday of this week. M‘r. Jackson was in attendance at the Executive Committee meet ing on Monday night at Greens boro and for the Convention pro gram Tuesday. CURB. REPORTER Tomorrow is the last day for listing taxes . . . . Those delicious Temple oranges have arrived at the Ballenger Co. . . . Standing in front of Jackson’s to get out of the rain news is scarce. A stray chicken looking lonesome and out of place is picking grass on the Oak Hall lawn .... Judge Faunt leroy going up the railroad track. Sack on his shoulders and some pretty flowers in his hand.
