C., TUESDAY, MAY 16, 1939 Lefty Flynn Golf Tourney Winner Lefty Flynn won via the blind bogey draw the golf tournament on Saturday at the Tryon Coun try club. He made a score of 89; had a handicap of 12 leaving a net score of 77. F. P. Bacon and Frank Wilcox tied for second places. Wilcox made a score of 89; handicap of 13, net. 76. Bacon’s score was 92, handicap 16, net 76. Bowling News The Hendersonville All-Stars bowling team will come to Tryon tonight for a game with the Cap tain Nessmith’s team. This game is deciding game in a series. The bowling will start at 7:30, __ with both boys and girls playing. Bushwhackers’ line-up will include Nessmith, Taylor, Butler, Honeman, Brooks and Lowe. Tea A Success The tea at the Tryon Country club on Saturday was a big event. The club room was attractively decorated for the occasion. Over 80 guests enjoyed the hospitality of the house committee with Mrs. Edgar Rowe serving as hostess for the day. Assisting her were Mrs. Junius Judson, Mrs. Jeffer son Coe, Mrs. Walter Howell, Mrs. Henry Parmelee, Mrs. Arthur Lin coln, Mrs. Jerry Drew, Mrs. Chas. Conrad, Mrs. Ralph Erskine, Mrs. Carroll Rogers, Mrs. Daniel Boone, Mrs. Baxter Haynes and Miss Sallie Coe. Polk Boy Scouts Are Promoted The Boy Stout Court of Honor held in the Parish House Monday night was very well attended both by Scouts and adults. Sitting on the Court with Execu tive R. M. Schiele were Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln, chairman; K. A. Bowen, Rev. D. M. McGeachy, Maj. W. A. Schilletter, R. H. Brady, Major Bernard Sharp, Rev. Chas. L. MicGavern, Dr. J. E* Derby. The Meeting was opened with prayer by Rev. D. M. McGeachy, followed with the repeating of the Scout Oath, led by R. M. Sthiele, Scout Executive, after which the following Scouts were advanced in rank: Tenderfoot Rank: Robert L. Dick, Lee Coon, Troop No. 1. First Class Rank: Jimmy'Baker, Troop 1, Tryon. Firemanship: Miarvin Edwards, Ellis Kuykendall, Roy Wright, George Cooksey, Troop 1. Personal Health: Dickey Ar thur, Paul Butler, Pickens Dur ham, Troop 1. Physical Development: Harold Tavlor, Troop 1. Pioneering: Bill Derby, Troop 1. Reading: Seth Vining, Jr., Troop No 1. Scholarship: Holland Brady, Troop No. 1. Swimming: Frank McFarland, Jr., Troop 1. •Woodworking: Bill Derby, Troop No. 1, Tryon.
