Dunbar Library
for 1938-’39
I hereby submit my second an
nual report of Dunbar library to
the public of Tryon.
The reading habit has increased
quite a bit over last year. We
circulated 501 books and maga
zines this yaer. In addition we
have had 925 circulated in the
school.
This year we discarded and lost
70 volumes. We added 81 volumes.
We have 490 volumes in library
now. The library took three col
ored news papers and two white
newspapers. They were: The Try
on Daily Bulletin, Charlotte Ob
server, Norfolk Journal and Guide,
Pittsburgh Courier, Mountain
News. The library had regular
use of almost every knbwn maga
zine but subscribed for Harpers
and State. We still receive the
Country Gentleman.
We are especially thankful to
Sharp for the many useful
magazines we have received from
him. I must also mention Miss
Addie Jayne of Winter Park, Fla.,
Mrs. E. E. Bradley of Stockbridge,
Mass., and Mrs. Willard Pope of
Detroit, because these people have
taken a special interest in our
library this year and are respon
sible for at least 50 of the 81
books we added.
I am sorry to report that the
library may not be opened regular
ly through the summer months,
but anyone may have use of books
_ by applying for same any night
except Sunday. I will be at home
about 8:30. We believe we should
have a better year beginning in
