C., MONDAY, MAY 22, 1939 Kiwanis Tuesday The Tryon Kiwanis club will meet on Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Tryon with J. N. Jackson in ybharge of the program. HICKS—BARNETTE Miss Mjargaret Irene Hicks of the Polk County Telephone Com pany and Mr. Beaufort Lee Bar nette of Cowan’s Grocery, were married on Friday evening in Spartanburg by Probate Judge M. C. Pace. Mr. and Mrs. McQueen Averill were attendants. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Hicks of Inman and the groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. James Barnette of Landrum. The young couple will make their home in Tryon. Mrs. Bridgman Mrs. Freelove Bridgeman, 66, of Columbus township near White Oak Mountain died on Saturday at the home of her daugh ter, Mrs. Tillv. Funeral services were held this morning at 11 o’clock at the Williams cemetery. Rev. D. M. McGeachy and Rev. Malcolm Ross, officiated. Pall- Bearers were Louie Arms, Bee Bridgeman, Jack Foster, Roy Fos ter, Silvanus Dedman, Paul Jus tice. Honorary pall bearers were Claude Scoggins, Roscoe Hall. Roy Arms, Tom Foster, Roy Jones, John Williams. HORSE SHOW INCORPORATED Daniel Boone and others have in corporated the' Winston - Salem Horse Show Association to conduct shows, riding academies and train ing stables. $10,000.00 stock au , thorized. S4O paid in. Samuel Bingham, Jr. says that the modern streamlined train shown at the end of the Union Pacific on Friday at Tryon Theat er was built under the direction of William A. Fraser, Jr., a fre quent visitor to Tryon several years ago. He is now in charge of “Old 58” taking it across the country under its own power to the New York World’s Fair . . . The response of the community to a call for funds with which to help carry on the Boy Scout work in this section has been very gratifying states chairman Nelson Jackson, Jr. of the finance committee. A few more donations of $25 and SSO would enable the county to reach its quoto of SI,OOO. Local people and visitors have been very generous. One man,- Aaron W. Davis of New York who is famil iar with the work being done by the Piedmont Council sent the local chairman $25 last week. This in terest from an outsider is very en couraging to local leaders who are working to bring scouting within reach of every in Polk county .... A trip to White Oak Moun tain Friday was very enjoyable. First time I had ever been on the mountain with clouds below coming up over the mountain like smoke rising up a chimney.
