C., WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7, 1939 Soft Ball Friday Tryon Rotary and Kiwanis clubs ;svill play a soft ball base ball game Friday afternoon, according to announcement made today by K. A. Bowen, manager of the Ki wanis team. The game will prob ably be played at Harmon Field. AAA Offers Farmers Os County $60,100.00 Farmers of Polk county can earn $60,100 in Agricultural Con servation payments under the 1939 Triple-A Farm Program, it wars announced today by E. Y. Floyd, AAA executive officer of State College. Last year they earned $54,138 by complying with acre age allotments and carrying out soil building practices. Floyd said that farmers who expect to qualify for payments in year’s program should sign individual farm plan before June 15th, if this has not already been done. To determine whether this requirement has been met, a nroducer should check his records to see if he has a copy of the Farm Plan. Floyd stated County Agents and local AAA committee men are prepared to assist every farmer in understanding his soil depleting acreage allotments, in working out a goal for soil building practices, and in otherwise earning his maximum payment. In addition to the payments for carrying out soil building prac tices and complying with soil de pleting acreage allotments, a Cot ton Price Adjustment payment is —Continued On Back Page The Bulletin is beginning to receive some nice produce from the farms in payment on subscriptions, such as chickens, eggs, honey, canned fruit, and fresh vegetables of all kinds. Anything of value is acceptable from farmers . . . . Dr. J. I. Lee has secured a large king snake for the Tau Rock vine yards because the king snake is said to be an of the rattle snake. Sb many rattlers have been seen in the vineyards. A man killed several within a few minutes recently .... Well, George and Elizabeth will arrive Thursday in Washington for their official American visit. We haven’t been invited and don’t feel hurt at all. Mrs. Coolidge was invited but she’s not going. The Carleton Curtises have been invited to the New York reception where George is to be given a degree or some thing by Columbia University. Forest City, N. C., June 6. Clyde Franklin Scruggs, 15, was found fatally wounded this morn ing on the floor of a room at the home of the youth’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Scruggs, near Henrietta. Coroner Hovis said a shotgun was found near the body and no inquest would be held. The coroner said the youth had been suffering from a heart ail ment for some time and had been despondent. The survivors include the par ents, a sister, and a brother.
