C., MONDAY, JUNE 19, 1939 BOYS CLUB STARTED THIS MORNING About 40 boys turned out this morning for registration and open vV ng of the fifth season of the VjU'ryon Boys’ club. Major W. A. Schilletter, the leader for this year, gave an inspiring talk on the plans for the six weeks’ session. Dr. George Farrand Taylor, the founder of the club, also was pres ent and gave a short talk. Seven of the boys connected with the club this year were charter mem bers four years ago and three of the boys have won cups for out standing service. New physical equipment has been added to help the boys in their work. Games, contests and recreation of various , kinds have been planned -for this year. A competent staff of coun sellors will assist Mlajor Schil letter in conducting the activities of the club. A1 boys from 9 to 16 years of age are invited to join the club and may come to the school house on Tuesday and Softball Game At 6:30 at Harmon Field A softball game between the Ball-the-Jacks” and the Reddy- Killowatters will be played this afternoon at 6:80 at Harmon Field. The Ball-the-Jacks are com posed of the following members: Frank Wall, Carl Fortner, Matt O’shieds, Broadus Mills, Dean Shields, Joe Anderson, Dewey Cooksey, Sam Dobson, Jack Mfel ton, Elbert Arledge, George Cook sey and Dutton Beatson. Members of the Reddy-Kilowat- Continued 0» Back Page : kM:X* ■ii TWO TENNESSEE MEN DROWNED IN LAKELURE Lake Lure, June 18. —Roy Pray tor, 45, and Paul Warrick, 40, both of Kingsport, Tenn., were drowned in Lake Lure this afternoon about 4:30 The two men and C. B. Ingram, also of Kingsport, were riding in a motorboat owned by Warrick when one of them stepped to one side of the boat causing it to overturn. Ingram, who is a good swim mer, struggled with his compan ions for more than 15 minutes and pleaded with them to hold on to the overturned boat until help arrived. Both Praytor, and Warrick be- , came panicky, however, and pulled Ingram under the surface. Finally Ingram said, he got the two men to the side of the boat but they were unable to hold on to the overturned craft and sank. Both Praytor and Warrick were married and were employed by a Kingsport motor company. They were members of a party that had come here from Kingsport for an outing. They were drowned about a half mile from the boat house in the main channel of the lake. Warrick’s body was recovered at 6:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon by Dewey Price, Lake Lure war den. A large crowd began drag ging the lake soon after the accident. Coroner Robert Hovis investigat ed the drowning yesterday and an nounced that an inauest was un likely.—Asheville Citizen.
