Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N C., FRIDAY, JUNE 23, 1939 To Dedicate Marker On July 2nd At Flat Rock Hendersonville, N. C., June 21. —Governor Burnet Maybank, of South Carolina, will lead a group of Southern dignitaries that will come to Flat Rock, noted sum mer colony near this city, for the dedication on Sunday afternoon, July 2nd, of a marker at the grave of C. G. Mjemminger, first secretary of the treasury of the Confederacy. The distinguished statesmen of the Old South, a native of Ger many, is buried in the graveyard at St. John’s in the Wilderness Episcopal Church. Not far away is the summer home he built, where he spent much time over a period of years. The marker dedication, scheduled for 3 o’clock, is sponsored by the Henderson County Historical So ciety and the vestry of St. John’s in the Wilderness. Among those to participate in the service will be Dr. C. C. Crit tenden, of Raleigh, Secretary of the North Carolina Historical Com mission. Dr. Crittenden will in troduce Governor Maybank. The Rt. Rev. Robert E. Gribbin of Asheville, Bishop of the Epis copal Diocese of Western North Carolina; Edward R. Mteipminger, of Flat Rock and Charleston, S. C., youngest son of the official of the Confederacy; Burnet Rhett, superintendent of Charleston, S. C., city schools, and Mrs. Sbdie S. Patton, president of the local historical society, are also among —Continued On Back Page Miss Tyler Is Named As Supt. Public Welfare . I a meeting of the County Board this week, Miss Ina T. Tyler was named Superintendent of Pub lic Welfare to succeed Miss Re becca Hoskins, who did not apply for re-election. Miss Tyler who came here from lowa and who has had wide experience in social ser vice work has been serving in the local office as case worker for the past six months. The board ap pointed her on the merits of her work and qualifications. Miss Hos kins has made no announcement of her plans for the future. Miss Nina Sharpe succeeds Mrs. Frank Arthur as office secretary. A new case worker to succeed Miss Tyler has not been appointed pending ex aminations of candidates. Revival At Inman Evangelist Harold 0. Horne is conducting an old time revival ser vice in the tabernacle at Inman, South Carolina. • Next Sunday night at 8 o’clock his subject will be “The Funeral Service of a Sinner.” A casket will be used at this service and those serving as pallbearers will be Ernest Rol lins, Reverend James Bryant, SI Campbell, Jack Campbel. All are cordially invited to attend this un usual service. SPENDS HONEYMOON HERE Mr. and Mfcs. John Edward Adams Carroll of Chattanooga and Baltimore have returned north af ter spending their honeymoon at Circle Inn.
