Mee gan from Damascus .... In a letter to B. L Ballenger Eugene Turner writes from China that the Chinese are hopeful of an early victory due to the financial condition of the Japs. He enclosed a Sino-Japanese bill, worth about one-sixteenth of an American penny. It is marked one-half cent but the Chinese refuse to use the currency, hence it has little value. The army and other regu lations have failed to keep the money at par. The Chinese say that they are stronger than ever and will get peace without any overljures on their part. They heard Charlie McCarthy over the radio for the first time in the middle of June. The collapse of former social and educational machinery has greatly increased the opportunities of the Y. M. C. A. and they are meeting the needs with a program embracing all forms of religious, welfare, edu cational and recreational work. .... A freak ear of corn was brought to a local store by a farmer the other day. Instead of having the door way in the middle* of the store, now has one big glass front and Continued. On Back Page Harmon Field Conflicts Playground Commissioner C. J. Lynch states that on account of the increasing popularity of Har mon Field it would be necessary for people expecting to play games or have picnics there to get per mission from him in order that conflicts in dates and time may be avoided and also that tables for picnickers may be provided in ad vance. He states that he is eager for as many people as possible to enjoy the conveniences and facili ties of the playground and make use of it for the most good to the greatest number. Softball Results Two softball games were played at Harmon Field between showers on Thursday afternoon. The Ball the-Jacks defeated Landrum Ter rors in a five-inning struggle which was stopped by rain. Score 9to 3. immediately following the shower the Bushwhackers took the field and defeated the Ballew Devils 23 to 9. Bushwhackers nsd Sou merco will play this afternoon at 6:30 at Harmon Field to complete the first round of two weeks en gagements. What’s In Your Attic?
