Est 1-31-28 CURB REPORTER Thanks to the Lightner Estate another wheel chair has been add ed to the wheel chair service of the Tryon Kiwanis club. This makes three chairs to lend to in valids who have been crippled or are recuperating. The first chair was given by Mrs. John Brittan Clark in memory of her mother, Mrs. Woodbridge; the second chair was given by Patricia Pensinger; and now this third chair from the Lightner heirs will add further to the comfort and convenience of the invalids in this section. These chairs are often used onJv so- a week or few months at the time, but they are in constant use and £o»khe demand for them now is greats than the number of chairs . . . . The J. H. Edward Dyer, who recent ly returned from war stricken area in China will be the guest speak, er at the Tryon Kiwanis club on Tuesday at 1 p. m. The program will be in charge of Carroll P. Rogers. Accepts Scout Cabin At the interesting dedication service at the Piedmont Boy Scout camp on Sunday afternoon at Lan er the Rotary club of Hickory gave the camp a new Scout cabin which it had built in memory of the club’s first presi dent, W'att J. Shuford. The im pressive acceptance speech was made by Council Vice-President Nelson Jackson, Jr., who knew Mr. Shuford for his great love of boys. Rev. Sam Stroup of Hickory told of MT. Shuford’s service to Scout ing, to Rotary and to' everything worthwhile in his community and section. Miss Adelaide Shuford, daughter of the deceased, unveiled the tablet. Counselor Timberlake led the audince in the singing of “Onward Boy Stouts” and “Ameri ca the Beautiful”. Rotary Gov ernor J. R. Sandifer of Hender sonville was among the many out. of town visitors. Some of the visi tors who had not been to camp in several years marvelled at the great progress that has been made. lc per copy
