C., FRIDAY, JULY 28, 1939 Boys’ Club Closes The impressive final exercises of the Tryon Boys’ club were held this morning at 10 o'clock at the Tryon school gymnasium. Charles ' Ford was voted the most out standing boy in the club and was presented the cup for this achieve ment by Dr. George Farrand Tay lor for J. N. Jackson, Sr. The smaller boys award was presented to Bill Dick by Dr. Taylor. Group 2, headed by Charles Ford, won the shield for most points in ac complishment. An entertaining and inspiring address was given by W. P. Jade son, former field secretary of the National Recreation Association. Holland Brady, Jr., gave an in teresting brief history of the club during the past five seasons. ,Ma jor W. A. Schilletter, who has directed the club the past two sea sons, expressed the thanks of the club to all those kind friends who have assisted the boys in so many ways. The attendance has aver fjjjaged 40 boys during the session. “ A large crowd of narents and adult visitors attended the closing exercises this morning. Following the program the guests were shown the display of handicraft and other useful things the boys have made this year as a result of their training in club work. The mission of the club is to have fun and entertainment while doing things in its program of character build ing. sponsored by Mrs. Anne Bos worth Greene. Softball Today Ballew Grocery and Kilowatters play this afternoon at 6:30 at Harmon Field. Construction Planned For County School Bus Garage Preliminary work preparatory to the construction of a county bus garage has been started in Co lumbus. The garage will serve all county school busses and is ex pected to cost around $15,000, part of which will be advanced by the PWA. The project will use WPA labor. The Stearns school gymnasium will also be finished in the near future, and additional class rooms will be built in the basOUent of this building. Baseball Today Adams-Millis and Startex play what may be the final regular baseball game on the home grounds this season. Time: 3:30. Golf Tournament At Country Club Parings for Championship flight and second and third flights are as follows: Championship Flight, Earl Rion vs. Nelson Jackson, Jr.; Marion Palmer vs. B. G. Henry; Edward Sayre vs. Baxter Haynes; B. Arledge vs. Tommy Marshall. Second Flight, Julian Calhoun, vs. F. P. Bacon; M. Switzer vs. Bill Dobson; J. W. Taylor vs. Bob Adams; F. S. Wilcox vs. C. H. Helms. Third Flight. J. W Marshall vs. K. A. Bowen; E. C. Rowe vs. Wm. Flentye; Robert Green vs. J .Mi Baker; J. L. Rowe vs. J. R. Trow bridge. All matches must be played on or‘ before August 3rd.
