#John G. Landrum, gr., of Land
rum gave an interesting talk at
the Kiwanis club on Tuesday at 1
p. m., at Hotel Tryon. He gave
a brief account of the Baptist
World Alliance which attended
last week in Atlanta, Ga., where
50,000 people representing 60 na
tions met for a religious confer
ence. Chas. W. Nessmith was in
charge of the program.
Money Allotted to Fight
Venereal Disease
Washington, Aug. I.—The United
States Public Health service al
lotted $168,690 to North Carolina
and $97,285 to South Carolina to
inaugurate the joint Federal-State
program of venereal disease con-
trol approved at the last session
Congress.
The allotments were made un-
the bill sponsored in the House
by Representative A. L. Bulwinkle
of the 10th North Carolina district,
and in the Senate by Senator Rob
ert Mi. La Follette of Wisconsin. A
total of $5,000,000 was appropriat
ed for use this year, of which $620,-
750 was retained by the Federal
government for research work,
laboratory and field demonstrations
and administration.
Os the $158,690 allotted to North
Carolina, $70,590 was an outright
grant, while the remaining SBB,-
100 is to be matched on a dollar
for-dollar basis. In South Caro
lina, the grant totaled $44,198, and
ssf 087 must be matched.—Char

Gloved Anders
Hendersonville, Aug. I.—Glover
Anders, prominent Hendersonville
real estate broker and member of
an old Henderson county family,
died at 8 o’clock Tuesday night at
his office on Mlain street. The
funeral services will be held Wed
nesday afternoon at 4 o’clock at
the Shawls Creek Baptist church
wHh burial in the cemetery there.
Mr. Anders was a brother of Mrs.
Roy Johnson of Saluda.
