Army men die in airplane crash at Langley Field, Via.’’ They are investigating the cause. “MieNutt praises the achievements of Roose velt and predicts broader security program’’ .... Japanese are hailing with glee their recent victory over the British who have agreed to give up the four Chinese who sought refuge in the British concession at Tientsin’’ . . . Taco ma, Washington Chamber of Com merce are going to add 11 more feet to Mt. Rainer to make it the third tallest peak in the United States. They will roll up a snow ball or do something to make the higher than Mt. Massive (§fn Colorado which was reported the other day to be 14,418 feet high or ten feet taller than Mt. Rainer.” .... Softball games in Tryon vicinity are getting to be serious affairs reminding one of the early strug gles of the regular game when friends, groups and communities sought the best playing material they could find to win games. 1 Transylvania County Home Closing Makes Eight Discontinued Transylvania county commission ers followed the lead of seven other county governing bodies In closing their county home the first of August, W. C. Ezell, director of the division of institutions and corrections of the State Board of Charities and Public Welfare, said in announcing this week receipt of formal notice of the commis sioners’ action. Mitchell, Chowan, Hyde, Chero kee, Greene, Swain and Yancey counties previously had discon tinued their county homes under the new program whereby the in mates were given public assistance grants and helped to find new homes of their own choice else where in the district. Grants up to a maximum of S3O a month and based on the need of the individual concerned are awarded by the county -welfare boards to the* former county home inmates and are paid from com bined county, state and federal funds under provision of the social security act. Kiwanis Tuesday L. P. Barnette will be in charge of the Kiwanis program on Tues day at 1 p. m., at Hotel Tryon. The guest speaker will be Attor ney Tom Lisles of Spartanburg. Major W. A. Schilletter leaves today for two weeks stay at the U. S. Army camp at Ft. McClellan, Anniston, Ala.
