Est. 1-31-28 BOAT RACE HAS 19 ENTRIES E. A. Emmermann, Jr., manager Lake Lanier Inn states that 19 f ‘"boats have been entered for the " big motor boat race to be held at Lake Lanier this coming Sunday, August 20th. Some of the best boats in the Sbuth will be entered including some from Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah, Columbia and nearby cities. Some of them will arrive on Saturday. Six traffic patrolmen have been assigned to area to prevent traffic conges tion. Huge “Moonshine” Plant Destroyed Federal and state officers yester day (Tuesday) announced the cap * ture and destruction late Monday night in Polk county of the largest illegal liquor plant found in West ern North Carolina for more than years. The plant was found in the Pea *\—:jiidge section of Polk county by alcohol tax unit investigators from Asheville, aided by Polk county sheriff’s deputies. Dvnamited with the plant were 1.000 gallons of mash and 27 bar rels used to contain the sour mix ture. The riant consisted of a 60-gallon and an 80 gallon steam still joined together, with a poten tial capacity of about 400 gallons of whiskey a w*ek. Fourteen sticks of dynamite were used in wrecking the outfit. The outfit appeared to have been in operation for about 60 days and was ready to run again, officers said, hut n'' arrests were made.— Asheville Citizen. Last week’s Publisher’s Aux iliary of Chicago published a pic ture of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Bosse in connection with the celebration of Mr. Bosse’s 75th birthday and his 53rd wedding anniversary. Mr. Bosse was born in Spartan burg, has been a printer 65 of his 75 years and spent some of them in Try on working on The Polk County News .... Lois Avant is reported having caught a five pound bass at Lake Lanier the other day .... An article in the current issue of Country Life is illustrated with a picture of Lefty Flynn riding Ethiopia over the jumps at the LeMort place. The picture was taken by McGrath and was a good example of the joy of riding in the Hunting Country .... As soon as we hear fiom Scout R. M. Sthiele a report will be given of the achievements of the Tryon Boy Scouts at the Piedmont Council camp on Lake Lanier last week. At the Court of Honor meeting in the fall Lock McGeachv will receive his Eagle badge. George Cooksey passed his Eagle tests last week and Bill Derby has only Civics to nass.
