Daniel of Clemson was the chief speaker at the Farmers Federation district r cnic held on Wednesday at the Mountain Experiment Station at Swannanoa. Farmers and friends from all over the western area of the state participated in the in teresting program. Fiddlin' John Weaver of Green Creek gave his famous fox chase and a friend, Floyd Thompson, impersonated an ass. The Sandy Springs quartet and J. E. Sfcoggin’s Sanay Springs choir were also on the program. A large number of Polk County peo-. pie attended the event whch was presided over by the federation president Dr. James G. K. McClure. Dr. Taylor At Rotary The guest speaker at the Tryon Rotary qlub on Friday at 1 p. m. Punnvdale will be the Rev. F)George Farrand Taylor who will speak on “Modern Education in Re ligion." COURT OF HONOR Scouts from troop No. 1, Tryon, received the following advance ment at the Court of Honor held Friday night, August 11, 1939: Jimmy Baker, swimming merit badge; Burrell Byers, swimimng merit badge; George Cooksey, leathercraft merit badge, pioneer ing, Eagle rank; Bill Derby, life saving merit badge; Nelson Jack son, 111, metal work merit badge; Harold Taylor, leathercraft merit ba*Ve; Seth Vbring, rowing merit badge. WILL OF MARY EMBURY FILED FOR PROBATE The will of the late Miss Mary E. Embury, who died here last Thursday, was filed for probate with Robert S. McFarland, clerk of Polk county Superior court today (Thursday). The will listed approximately $25,000 composed mostly of stocks and bonds and named as chief beneficiary Domestic & Foreign Missionary Society of the Protes tant Episcopal Church, Diocese of Western North Carolina. To this society went all real and personal property, with the exception of several pieces of furniture that were given to Mrs. T. E. Kell and the Rev. C. P. Burnett of Tryon, and S9OO and the remainder of a trust fund that was left to « brother of Miss Embury, who died about four years ago, to Miss Adelaide Dunning of Tryon. The Wachovia Bank & Trust Company of Asheville was named executors.
