News Headlines Since Saturday’s issue of the Bulletin, England and France have declared war against Ger many. The Germans and Poles are waging fierce battles in eas tern Poland where the Germans took several cities. Radio reports state that the Poles have retaken some of the cities and have push ed on into Prussia. Also that the French army has moved two miles into German territory on the west going around the fortified line. The British airplanes have dropped leaflets in Germany saying that they are fighting Hitler and have not hatred of the German people. ... A British boat has been sunk by torpedo; 1,400 some of them Americans, were on board. Most of the pas sengers were saved ..... Miss Blanche Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Smith of Tryon Route One, is in St. Luke’s hospital for an appendix operation today. Miss Peggy Litsey, who has been visiting her aunt, Mrs. P. W. Winn, has returned to '"her home in Savannah, Ga. Mrs. C. Edward Murray of Trenton and Spring Lake, N. J., is the guest of Mrs. Samuel S. Woody in Gillette Woods. Mrs. Mhirray was formerly state presi dent of the Colonial Dames of New Jersey.
