C., WED., SEPT. 13, 1939 It is hard for local fans to give up softball games even after the season is over. The Landrum Ter rors came up Tuesday afternoon and defeated the Champion Bush whackers 9-7 at Harmon Field . . . The Tryon Daily Bulletin has en tered a number of colleges this week, going to Ruth McFarland at Queens-Chicora, Charlotte, Bill Ward at Georgia Tech, Theo Ker hulas at Clemson, Kathryn Ker hulas at Winthrop, Edward Sayre at N. C. State and Ruby Aiice Clark at a secretarial school in Orangeburg, S. C. The Bulletin tuition to any college in the U. S. ; for nine months is only $1 . . . The Canadian government informs this paper in a letter today that “No restrictions of any kind have been imposed, or are likely to be im posed, on tourists from the United States into Canada. In other words, tourist traffic may flow free ly across the border between the United States and Canada despite the conditions which have been brought about as a result of the war in Europe.” . . . And that reminds us of the convenience of fered in Mbnday’s ad by Manville & Hunt of Tryon who are agents for the Eastern Air Lines, Trans- Western and Pan American Air ways. Also all Atlantic Steam ship Lines and reservations can be made at their office . . . First P.-T. A. Meeting On Monday, Sept. 18 The first meeting of the new school year for the Tryon Parent- Teacher Association will be held on Monday, September 18th, at 3:30 p. m., at the school auditor ium. The guest speaker wiP be W. P. Jackson, recreation director. The president, Mrs. E. E. Missil dine, requests all members who can conveniently do so to bring their dues of $1 each to the meeting as it will save the committee a lot of work. Mrs, Ralph Jackson, Mem bership chairman or Mrs. C. N. Sayre, the treasurer, will be glad to receive the membership sub scriptions. Take Over Sinclair Service Station The McCall brothers, Frank and Enoch, of Hendersonville, have tak en over the management of the Sinclair Service Station at the in tersection of Maple and Trade streets. David Niven Called to War David Niven is the first of Holly wood’s dream princes to be ordered back to England to join his regi ment and take part in the grim realities of war. He was in the midst of work on “Raffles” when the sinister little card bearing an official govern ment stamp was delivered to him.
