Mrs. John L. Brown and daugh ter, Helen, have returned from an extended visit in Illinois. They were accompanied home by Mr. Brown’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Brown, of Wheaton, 111. An attractive picture of Miss Bernice Foster, daughter of Dr. and Mtrs. J. C. C. Foster, whose engagement to Mr. John Lewis Shields of Tryon has been an nounced, was published in Sun day’s Asheville Citizen-Times. The wedding will take place on October Ist, at the Episcopal church. Mrs. Fred Thompson of Saluda is a patient at St. Luke’s hospital. Jack Davenport has returned to The Citadel at Charleston, S. C. Mir. and Mrs. W. C. Ward have as their guest, at '“Rockcrest”, Edneyville, Mrs. Ward’s sister, Mrs. W. A. Lane, of Tarboro, N. C. Capt. and Mrs. Miorris A. Bry an and son, Robert, of Coconut Grove, Fla., are guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. Perry Manville while en route home from Connecticut.
