C., THURSDAY, SEPT. 28, 1939 Football Friday The Tryon-Saluda football team thrill play its second game of the on Friday, Sept. 29th, at Harmon Field. The Spartanburg Reserves will furnish the oppo sition and from all indications, the locals will have their hands full. This game should draw a large crowd of spectators. The Tryon- Saluda team has been busy this week ironing out the rough spots which showed up in the game last week. Due to intense scrimmage, the line ought to be improved in their charging and blocking. The back field no doubt will have a better running game. To Present Play At the assembly hour on Fri day the Sophomore class will pre sent a one-act play, “Spreading News”, by Lady Augusta JP&regory. The characters and the members of the class taking part are: Bartley Fallon—Holland Brady. Mrs. Fallon—Julia Merle Parris. Jack Smith —Spurgeon Arledge. Shawn Early—Edward Samples. Tim Casey—Pickens Durham. James Regan—Nathan Moore. Mrs. Tarpey—Kathryn Edwards. Mrs. Tully Evelyn Taylor- Tanner. A Policeman—Dean Earley. A Magistrate—Jack Melton. Stage Managers—Albert Henson and James Pace. Polk county farmers can pay for their Bulletin or Polk County News with apples, cabbage and potatoes. Communications The improvements on the grounds of the Lanier library are steadily going forward, and the new side approach, which has been the sub ject of much favorable comment, is nearing completion. The officers and grounds com mittee of the club wish to express their appreciation of the many gifts and offers of help that have come in since the previous acknowl edgements were published. These gifts and offers have come thru so many different channels, that, if some one’s, name has been omitted, the committee hopes that the offer will be renewed. This will give them an opportunity to rectify any errors or failures in acknowledgement. Money has been given by the following persons: Mjss Katherine D. Hamilton, Mrs. Miay O. Lonnie Foster, library janitor, has offered a day of his time and a dav’s hauling has been promised by the Nessmith brothers. The Shields Plumbing Co., has given a new fixture at cost. Fertilizer has been promised by Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Smith, the Newman Stables, and the J. C. Davidson Dairy. Shrubs, olants and bulbs have been promised by Mir.
