Est. 1-31-28 Hendersoii County Fall Festival, Oct. 4, 5 'Hendersonville, Oct. 2.—Hender sonville and Henderson county will vrgo native” Wednesday and Thurs day, October 4-6, for the Fall Fes tival which is being staged jointly by more than 36 organizations and groups for the entertainment of local people and visitors. Business people will deck their employees in costumes reminiscent of previous days and prizes will be awarded for the best costumes for the men growing the best whiskers. A parade of animal drawn ve hicles Wednesday at 11 a. m., will open the celebration. Visitors will be shown points of interest in a motorcade at 2 p. m., and moun tain singers and dancers will en tertain at a program of folk music and dancing at 7:30 p. m. A livestock show and parade, a Harvest Pageant and old fashioned Barn Dancing will highlight Thurs kAday’s activities. Miss Henderson will be selected apd crowned at the Barn Dahce at the city gymnasium. A county fair and display of agricultural products, a flower show and a museum of antique and interesting objects connected with the county's history will be open from Tuesday thru Friday. METHODIST WOMEN The Woman's Missionary society of the Tryon Methodist church will meet on Wednesday evening at 7:30 at the home of Mrs. R. C. Fitzpatrick. /TRYON, N. C., MONDAY, OCT. 2, 1939 Two In Polk Arrested On Liquor Counts Charlie Lockhart and Eliza Jane Johnson, of Polk county, were ar rested yesterday by alcohol tax unit investigators and lodged in the Buncombe county jail on charges of violating the liquor laws. Lockhart was in jail today today in default of SI,OOO bond and the woman was free under bond of SIOO for “her appearance in federal district court here in Noy. They were given hearings before United States Commissioner Eu gene Taylor. The officers found 10 gallons of liquor and a number of 10-gallon kegs in the yard of the Lockhart home. The liquor was being trans ferred from a keg to jars, the agents said. The officers also seiz ed two automobiles in the yard of the Lockhart home, which is near Tryon.—Asheville Citizen. Kiwanis Tuesday Tom Costa will be in charge of the Tryon Kiwanis club program on Tuesday at 1 p. m,, at Hotel Tryon. An auction sale will follow the program to raise money for ex penses of the society.
