Tryon-Saluda Defeats

The Tryon-baluda high football
team got revenge for. a 12 to 0
ticking ,ast year by trouncing the
big Welcome high team 26 to 7
in a football game played Friday
at Harmon r ieid. The visitors were
! throughout the entire
game and made their lone counter
in the second period by a succes
sion of passes over the Tryon-
Saluda reserve players. The Tryon
backfield, consisting of Green,
Jones, D. Beatson, Melton, E. Beat
son, Holbert and Vining, who took
a turn at backfield in the last
quarter, gained consistently. The
orange clad visitors could not stop
Jones and Green on their rushes.
The outstanding run of the game
was made by Green when he took
the ball on an end, run in t v e
second period and streaked fifty
wrds to score. Jones, playing a
• Jm-up game, made gains every
he had the ball.
The line held its own and
checked the Welcome high backs
with eyeelleni- t-mkhng. MlcGeachy
at center, showed much improve
ment over past games. The fol
lowing linesmen took part: Wall,
Shields, Vining, McGeachy, Rhodes,
Swann, Taylor, Cooksey, Chapman,
Hilton, Pace, Derby, Parker, Cartee
and McFarland.
Touchdowms were made by D.
Beatson, Green, Melton and Vining.
Extra points—Taylor on pass,
Green by placement.
