Tryon Kiwanians, Rotarians, city
officials and county officers have
been invited to Chapel Hill to par
ticipate in the opening of the
Institute of Government labora
tory building on Wednesday eve
ning, November 29th. But listen
to this bargain: For $3 they will
get three meals including Wednes
day evening, Thursday morning
and Thanksgiving dinner, a dor
mitory room to sleep in and a free
ticket to the Carolina-Virginia foot
ball game. The laboratory is the
first of its kind in America, and

ing the Civic clubs of this state to
join with them in a practical pro
gram of governmental education,
designed to put the people in touch
with the workings of the city, coun
ty and state government and keep
them in touch with it ... . For
seven years the Institute of Gov
ernment staff has been laying the
groundwork for such a program,
and going from city hall to city
hall, county courthouse to county
courthouse, and state department
to state department collecting and
classifying materials on the meth
ods, practices and techniques of
city, county and state government.
