The annual meeting of the Wo-; | man’s society of Erskine Miemorial church was held on Tuesday noon with a luncheon at the home of Mrs. Willis E. Parsons on Melrose avenue. Annual reports were read and officers for next year were elected as follows: President, Mrs. Carroll P. Rogers; vice-president, Mrs. K. A. Bowen; vice-president, Mrs. R. M. MlcCown; secretary, Miss Pran ces Hudson; treasurer, Mrs. Ray mond Dodge. The retiring treasurer, Mrs. Alice Mlssildlne, was presented a gift and vote of thanks in appre ciation of her faithful service to the society for over 40 years. The society was first organized in her home, and she was its president for ten years, and later served 30 years as its treasurer. (Interesting reports showed a husy year for the church women. Money Was raised for the Girl Scouts, lunch fund at the school house, and for Congregational Board of Mis sions. The sewing committee made 478 garments for the hospital, county nurse and Red .Cross, a fund was started for the improvement of the church building. The church yards were planted with shrubs, flowers were furnished for the church services. The visiting com mittee made 116 calls on new comers and the sick, a box of clothing was shipped to Pleasant Hill Academy and a basket of jelly collected for St. Luke’s hosnital. Plans were discussed for the annual meeting of the church to be held next week at Sunnydale. Red Cross Chapter Record Roll Call Chairman Charles G. bewail states that the report of the Polk County Chapter of the American Red Cross breaks all record** With a few belated re turns yet to be received, the chap ter reports 506 memberships at one dollar each. Contributions re ceived in addition to the member ship fees raise the total cash re ceipts to $841.95. Os this amount the staff and employees of the Adams-Millis mill turned in ldl memberships, with total contribu tions of $202.20. To all who have helped to make this a banner year for Red Cross in Tryon, the chapter extends hearty thanks. AUXILIARY TO MEET The Woman’s Auxiliary of the Church of the Holy Cross will meet on Monday afternoon, Dec. 4, at 3:30 o’clock at the home of Miss Harriet Taylor. Miss Ina T. Tyler, superinten dent of Welfare Work of Polk county, will address the meeting on the conditions and needs thru out the county. s, T hanksgiving All over America church and various organizations gave thanks for the safety and good fortunes *of America in comparison with the war stricken areas of the world. Russia hhg invaded Finn land and the civilized world is J shocked. In Tryon a large crowd j heard the Rev. B. G. Henry preach ; a Thanksgiving sermon at the ! community service at the Erskine j Memorial church.
