C., THURSDAY, DEC. 14, 1939 Loses Eye In Wreck Horace Ballew, an - employee of Cowan's Grocery, lost his right in an auto accident on Wed- night when his car failed >6 make the curve in Saluda near the Service station and crashed into a telephone pole. He was brought to St. Luke's hospital for treatment. Basketball News . Tryon high school will play North Greenville Academy at the local gymnasium on Friday night at 7:30. The Green Creek boys and girls will play Mount Vernon on Friday at Green Creek and Sunny View on Tuesday night at the same place. Dr. Branch at Rotary A Dr. Ernest Branch, director of tlJpral Hygiene of the North Caro lina Board of Health, will be the guest speaker at the Tryon Ro tary club on Friday at 1 p. m., at Synnydale. Supt. W. A. Schil letter will be in charge of the program. Dance Tonight Jimmy Livingston and his noted Orchestra will play tonight at Sunnydale for the first big dance of the Christmas holidays in Try on. Many out-of-town guests are expected. Director of Oral Hygiene Will Address Polk County Teachers Association Dr. Ernest A. Branch, director of the divisions of Oral Hygiene of North Carolina State Board of Health will address the Polk coun ty Teachers Association at the December meeting which will be held in the Tryon school auditor ium on Thursday evening, Decem ber 14, at 8 o’clock. Dr. H. C. Whims, county health officer. Miss Irene Clark and Mrs. Maude Ed wards, county nurses, will also be on the program. The Association has for the year’s theme the “Evaluation of the Curriculum,” and in viewing the school program from many angles, it has been found that the health program should be made more constructive and effective. The purpose of this meeting will be to learn how the school may set up a more worthwhile pro gram and how each school may co-operate with and benefit from the services of the Health Depart ment. Dr. W. P. Jackson will have charge of the devotional part of the program and lead in the sing ing of Christmas carols. A brief social meeting in the home econo mics room will follow the main program. The officers of the association are: M. B. Caldwell, president; A. A. Atkins, vice-president; Mrs. Alice Hicks Edwards, secretary treasurer.
