The visitors were unable to score in the first quarter and the locals ran up a ten point lead before their oppon ents tallied. The game was well played throughout with Case being ! high man for Columbus. The Try on scoring was well distributed with Taylor, McFarland, Vining, and D. Beatson getting six or more points each. Green Creek Splits With Sunny View Green Creek high school boys’ basketball team lost a close hard fought game to the Sunny View school team on Tuesday night by a score of 12 to 14. But the Green Creek girls’ team won over the Sunny View girls by a big one-sided score. TRYON, N. C., THURSDAY, DEC. 21, 1939 Mrs . E . W. Dedmondt Mrs. Martha Dedmondt, wife of Mr. E. W. Dedmondt, died at her home in Columbus at 3 a. m., this morning (Thursday) after a ling ering illness. She was 77 years old. Mrs. Dedmondt, the former Mar tha Washington Lookado, was born in the eastern part of North Caro lina, and was married to Mr. Ded mondt December 11th, 1879. They celebrated their 60th wedding an niversary Sunday, December 10th, at which time Mrs. Dedmondt was confined to her bed by an attack of pneumonia which resulted in her death. The deceased is survived by her husband, two sons, George C. of Tryon and Esby Von Dedmondt of Newberry, S. C.; three daughters, Mrs. A. D. Brown of Prosperity, S. C.; Mhs. J. L. Furr, Clinton, S. C., and Mrs. W. A. Ormand of Columbus; seventeen grandchil dren and several great-grandchil dren also survive. Funeral services Friday after noon at the Presbyterian church in Columbus at an hour to be announced later. Community Christmas Tree At Saluda The City of Saluda will have its Community Christmas Tree on Sunday, Christmas Eve afternoon at 4:30 o’clock at the Community Playground. Every child will be assured some candy and fruit.
