Mills cele brated their Golden Wedding An niversary by entertaining their friends at a tea at their home in Tryon. Guests were invited to call be- Yveen the hours from four te six -'o’clock in the afternoon. They were met at the door by I>r. G. V. Tilley of Columbus. MJss Minnie Arledge of Hendersonville, N. C., introduced them to the receiving line which was composed of Mr. and Mrs. N. T. Miills, Mr. C. S. Mills of Greenville, S. C., Mirs. Lindsey Swofford of Slpartanburg; Mr. M. B. Mills of Spartanburg; Mrs. James C. Henderson of Ware Shoals, S. C.; Mrs. E. H. Haynes, Jr, of Washington, D. C.; M!rs. Thad Page of Asheville; Mflss Mae Mills, M/iss Thelma Miills, and Mr. C. B. Mills, all of Tryon. After signing the register, kept by Mrs. C. B. MJills, favors were presented by Mrs. M,. B. Mills and Master Donald Swofford. Miss Anne Sevier invited the guests into »the dining room where they were ilerved tea by Mrs. A. J. Jervey, -'Mrs. G. V. Tilley and Miss Addie Daniel. Mrs. E. H. Haynes, Sr., bade the guests goodbye. Mrs. Mills wore a gown of black faille and a shoulder bouquet of talisman roses. The living room was decorated with evergreens, talisman roses, and gold tapers. Golden bells were hung in the reception hall. A lace cloth was used on the dining room table. There was a crystal bowl filed with talisman ros°s and gold tapers were used at each end. One hundred guests tatted. . TRYON, N. C., WEDNESDAY, DEC. 27, 1939 Melvin Purvis To Address Scouters Melvin Purvis, formerly of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, who for seveftgl years was per haps the best known of all of the operatives of the “FBI” and who is credited for ending the careers of the notorious John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, Verne Miller and many other noted criminals, will be the principal speaker at the annual meeting and banquet of the Piedmont Council, Boy Scouts of America, which will be held on Tuesday night, January 16th, at Gastonia, at which time 400 of the outstanding business and profes sional men of the Piedmont Coun cil area which comprises the coun ties of Alexander, Burke, Cald well, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, McDowell, Polk and Rutherford will come together in, the interest of the character building and citizenship training program of the Boy Scouts of America. Arrangements are also being made for Mir. Purvis to ad dress a mass meeting of Boy Stouts on the afternoon of Jan. 16th to which the 3,000 Scouts of the Piedmont Council area will be invited. Mr. Purvis, is now owner and editor of The News, of Flor ence, S. C. West Virginia Man at Rotary Fred Owen will be in charge of the Tryon Rotary club on Friday at 1 p. m. at Sunnydale and the guest speaker will be James Ware of Charleston, West Virginia, who will speak on the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
