Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N C., TUESDAY, JAN. 9, 1940 Communications John Foster’s house burned down last Sunday morning on Stearns Route. They were away from home when jfche house caught. Everything ex cept what they had on got burnt up. They were at Columbus with John’s sisLter when the house burnt down. They want anybody that will give them anything to leave it at Lynn with Mrs. Jack Foster. They will take fruit, clothing, dish es, money, pots, pans, quilts, sheets, pillows, or anything that anyoody wants to give them. They can leave it with Mirs. Jack Foster at Lynn. Mrs. Jack Foster lives in the old store house. Mrs. Viola Foster. MEETING POSTPONED The Mollie Morris Circle of the Tryon Methodist church has post poned its January meeting to the iirst Monday in February, at which time the Circle will meet with Miss -.Leila JVilson. 9 President Roosevelt at the Dis trict of Columbia Jackson Day dinner Monday night urged the party to hold to its independent voters because the good of the country should come first. Tryon Bank & Trust Co., will hold its annual stockholders meet ing this afternoon. Scouts To. Hear Former “G-Man” Gastonia, N. C., Jan. 9.—An nouncement is being made by J. W. Atkins, chairman of the Arrange ments Committee for the Annual Meeting and Banquet of the Pied mont Council, Boy Scouts of America, which will be held here on Tuesday night, the 16th, that Melvin Purvis, former “G-Man”, who will be the principal speaker at the meeting, will address a mass meeting of Boy Scouts from the Piedmont Council area at the high school auditorium on the afternoon of the 16th, at 4:30 o’clock. Scout Troops from Alex ander, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, McDowell, Polk, and Rutherford are being invited to the mass meet ing on the afternoon of the 16th, as the meeting at night is for Scout and Cub leaders. Melvin Purvis, a former agent of the F. B. I. is perhaps the best known of the “G-Men,” having brought to an end, the notorious John Dellinger, “Baby Face” Nel son, and a host of other criminals. Mr. Purvis is now a newspaper publisher at Florence, S. C., and a speaker of national reputation. Hunt Club Meets At Oak Hall On Wednesday The Riding & Hunt club will hold its annual meeting on Wed nesday night at 8:15 at Oak Hall hotel instead of at Sunnydale as oreviously announced.
