Est. 1-31-28 Court of Honor At Parish House Tonight )The Polk County Boy Scout Court of Honor will be held at the Parish House tonight (Wednes day), at 7:30 o’clock. The public is invited. Kiwanis Club Hears Musical Program The Tryon Kiwanis members and guests heard a delightful musical program given by Miss Elizabeth Gray at their luncheon on Tues day at Hotel Tryon. After a number of piano selections played by Miss Gray, the club joined in singing their Kiwanis song. The commttee chairmen reported plans for 1940. The club voted to give $7.50 for wiring materials for the Cooper Gap Community House. CURB REPORTER The sunshine is beautiful and the golfers are enjoying the driv ing and putting at the Trvon Country club .... The heart of the world has been touched by the plight of Finnland. This little paper is used so much for soliciting funds for various causes that a reader asked if it accepted con tributions for Finnish Relief. We Continued on Back Page TRYON, N C., WEDNESDAY, JAN. 17, 1940 Sunny View to Play Mount Vernon Teams Sunny View high school will play a double-header basketball game with Mt. Vernon high school of Rutherford county on Thurs day night at 7:30 at the Colum bus gymnasium. Mft. Vernon lost to the strong Sunny View teams before Christmas, but have been winning all games played recently. Sb, this game should be close and interesting. Tryon Men Hear Melvin Purvis The annual meeting and banquet of the Piedmont Council Boy Scouts of America, held in Gas tonia in the $40,000 Scout build ing on Tuesday evening, was well attended with abou f 400 leaders from the eleven counties nresent. Melvin Purvis, former “G-Mlan”. was the principal speaker and was very high in his praise of the work being done by the Piedmont Council. He stressed the importance of orime prevention as well as crime detection and said he knew of no better way of preventing crime than the proper training of the youth of America. Those from Tryon attending the meeting were Dr. A. J. Jervey, Scoutmaster W. A. Schilletter. James Baker, K. A. Bowen and C. H. Helms. Bank to Close Friday Tryon Bank & Trust Company will be closed Friday for Robert E. Lee’s birthday.
