Avant of Tryon, announce the engage ment of their daughter, Elizabeth, to Marcus B. Caldwell of Tryon and Newberry, South Carolina. The wedding will take place in the late summer. Miss Avant is a graduate of Tryon high school and of Winthrop college, where she received her A. B. degree in Primary Education. Mr. Caldwell is the son of the late, Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Caldwell of Newberry, S. C. He received his A. B. Degree from Newberry College and attended the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. This sum mer he will receive an M. A. de gree in Psychology from the Uni versity of South Carolina. Tryon High Defeats Landrum High , 29-7 The Tryon high basketball team won another victory by overcoming the Landrum quintet Friday night at the Tryon gym. The expert shooting of the entire Tryon squad combined with their pass work and defense was the deciding points in the victory. The visitors could not hit the hoop when the opportunity came and had trouble penetrating to the goal. Vining was high man for the locals with 10 points, nine of which he racked up in the first half.
