Mrs. John T. Smith
News has been received here of
the death early Monday morning
High point of Mrs. John T.
According to information
death came to Mrs. Smith
unexpectedly. Funeral services
Tuesday afternoon at High Point.
Besides her husband, the de
ceased is survived by two sons,
John, Jr., and Edwin. Her moth
er and several sisters also survive.
The Smiths were residents of this
county for several years, moving
to High Point from Columbus
about four years ago. Mrs. Slmith
formerly Miss Sara Maud Padgett,

She later taught school in Colum
bus and was always active in com
munity work.
Mrs. Smith was brought to Polk

Elect Vestry Board
At the annual meeting of the
Church of the Holy Cross held on
Monday night at the Parish House
the following men were elected to
the Board of Vestrymen: F. P.
Bacon, J. Mi. Baker, Julian Cal
houn, Harold Crandall, G. H.
Holmes, Dr. A. J. Jervey, H. H.
Parmelee. Major Bernard Sharp,
Dr. Austin Woody. The Board
will hold its organization meeting
on Wednesday, February 7th, for
election of two wardens and
treasurer.

Basketball Tonight
The Try on high school basket
ball team plays Central high of
Rutherfordton tonight at the
school gymnasium. Game time is
7:30 p. m. Be there!
The Tryon team has been vic
torious in 5 of their 6 contests.
They defeated Sunny View last
Tuesday night 18 to 16. The line

Red Cross Yarns At
Blue Ridge Weavers
Miss Mae Irene Flentye an
nounces that anyone desiring to
knit sweaters, caps and socks for
the Red Cross refugee work will
find a new shipment of material
at the Blue Ridge Weavers.
“Life of Lincoln 9
An educational movie, “The Life
so Abraham Lincoln,” will be pre
sented in the school auditorium, on
Thursday at 10:15 by John Landis,
who presents educational movies
throughout the south.
To help to defray expenses a
small admission of five cents will
be charged to members of the
school who wish to attend this
showing.
