Preston. 1940 CLEAN-UP WEEK FOR APRIL 1-6 Tentative plans for this year’s Clean-Up Week, set for April 1 to 6 inclusive, were approved at a meeting of the Tryon Garden club held on Wednesdav at the home of Mrs. Nelson Jackson, Jr. M!uch preliminary work on the clean-up campaign has been done by Mrs. Raymond Dodge, who is in charge of the project. An out standing feature of the campaign will be the participation of the school children of Tryon, who are now being organized for work on a number of projects or competi tions that will go a long way to ward assuring the success of .Confirmed on Back Page ..... Tryon High Defeats Saluda High 28 to 12 (By School Reporter) The Tryon high boys had little trouble last night in downing the Saluda high team in a basketball game played at the Saluda gym. The locals displaying a fancy brand of basketball jumped into an early lead and held a 17 point lead at the half while their oppon ents had 2 points gained by the foul route. The second half speed ed up with Saluda hitting the hoop for five field goals. Cooper was high man for Saluda with two field goals and two foul points while MbFarland with 12 and Vining with 10, led for Tryon. The entire two teams used by Tryon played good basketball throughout the contest: Game summary: Tryon (28) —McFarland. 12; Beatson, 3; Vining, 10; Taylor, 2; Melton. 0; Cooksey, 1; Chapman, 0; Ford, 0; Jackson, 0; Beatson, E., 0. Adams-Millis Splits With Inman Teams The Adams-Millis boys’ and girls’ basketball teams played a double-header with Inman Mills on Thursday night at the Tryon gymnasium.
