Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N C., TUESDAY, FEB. 13, 1940 CURB REPORTER As I depart for the Western North Carolina Mayors’ Tour of Florida and turn the wheel over to “the first mate” I am filled with the enthusiasm of those boosting friends who have contributed to the expenses of the tour and am conscious of the fact that I am on a selling tour, representing the community of Tryon. It is re markable how contagious enthu siasm can be. The directors and committees of the Tryon Chamber of Commerce are doing a great job with the aid of those members who believe in progress - Every member of the Chamber of Commerce is a stockholder in building Good Will and a future for 9 is community .... It is sur rising how many Tryonites have connections in Florida. Carroll Rogers’ older brother, John C. Rogers, is at Ft. Myers, Miss Frances Hudson has a sister, Dr. Hudson, at Sarasota, the Vernon Halls are at Daytona Beach, the Lewises, Bainards, Jacksons, Gibbs Earles, Boones, and hundreds of others have helped build St. Pteers bure area. These games will cause the local quintet to play their best as both Landrum and Columbus are anxious to avenge previous defeats. The game on Thursday night should be close since Stearns won out over Sunny View by two points ,the same margin that Try on won by. The crowd for the Central high game was much larger than for other games and we urge every one to come out if they like fast basketball. Advertise this game for Thursday night, and come and support your team. Mrs,. R. G. Collison Mrs. R. C .Collison, mother of Mrs. George Farrand Taylor, pass ed away at St. Luke’s hospital at nine o’clock this morning after an illness of three months. Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Covenant, Washington. D. C., Wednesday afternoon, February 14th, with Dr. ,nastor of the church and Dr. Taylor officiating. Interment will be at Troy, N. Y. Township Constable His Resignation The chairman of the County Board of Commissioners received Monday from J. B. Case, Constable of Columbus Township, his resig nation to be effective immediately. As vet the board has not been in session to give it consideration.
