Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N C., WEDNESDAY, FEB. 14, 1940 Tryon High Defeats, Landrum 29 to 18 m Tryon high boys racked up ano ther win by downing a scrappy Landrum high team in a basket ball game played last night at the Landrum gym. The game was play ed on even terms during the first half with Tryon always ringing the basket to keep a few points ahead when necessary. In the second half the locals put on more steam and ran up an eleven point lead. Melton and Vining tied for high scoring with nine points apiece for Tryon while I>. Daniels got seven son Landrum. Tryon tossed in nine out of eleven foul shots. Summary of game: Tryon (29) —McFarland 6; Vin ing 9; Taylor 3; Melton 9; Chap man 2; Cooksey 0; Ford 0; E. Beatson 0; D. Beatson 0; Jack son 0. Sf Landrum ((18) —Nance 4; Eat ?x>n 0; Wolf 1; Daniels, D. 7; Dan iels R. 4; Walden 2. Referee: Evans (Gramling). The next game to be played at Tryon will be with Stearns hierh of Columbus on Thursday at 7:30. This will be a closel exciting game and spectators ai*e urged to come out. Business Women’s Circle The Business Women’s Circle of the First Baptist church will meet at the church with Mrs. Bish op as hostess on Thursday eve m'ng, February 15th. Mrs. Troy Tucker will be in charge of the program. Services Held For Clyde Henderson, 23 Funeral services for Clyde Hen derson,* 23-year-old Columbus youth who died following an operation at a local hospital, were held Wed nesday morning at the First Bap tist church in Columbus. Rev. Malcolm Ross of Tryon officiated. Interment was at Glendale, S. C., immediately after the services. The deceased is survived by his parents, Mir. and M!rs. Lindsay Henderson of Columbus; four sis ters, M]rs. Charlie Foster, Lynn, Mrs. Tanner Solesby, Glendale, S. C.; and Elizabeth and Mabel Hen derson of Mill Spring; two broth ers, Claude and Hender son of Mill Spring. Surviving also are several half-brothers and half sisters. Construction At Lynn Bridge In Progress The State Highway Department is now engaged with the addition of a pedestrain’s walk at the Lynn bridge. The structure will be constructed of steel. The recom mendation of the Commission some time ago for the safety of pedes strains crossing the main bridge has met with a hearty approval of the people. The main bridge was so situated that the lives of those passing was endangered. It has not been stated how long it will take to complete the addition. The Board of Directors of the Trvon Parent-Teacher Association will meet this evening at 8 o’clock with Mrs. Frank McFarland.
