The visitors brought a much im proved team to the local court but could not muster up enough points. , In the first quarter they enjoyed a brief three to two lead which was the only time they led the local quint. The Tryon team played listlessly, spurting up when the occasion demanded. McFarland top ped the scoring with - nine points, followed by Vining with seven. Beatson (Tryon). “Our Town” Play Tonight The Palmetto Players of Spar tanburg will present the long looked for play, “Our Town” th s evening at the Tryon high school auditorium at 8 o’clock. Miss Hazel Abbott of Converse college, will direct the play, which was 1938 Pulitzer Prize Winner. The Lanier club is sponsoring this, and the proceeds will go for the good cause of the “Town Library.” Tryon For Rest and Re-Creation CURB REPORTER . . . Having a wonderful time. Past District Rotary Governor Robert F. Phillips of Asheville was captain of our bus the first day and Mayor S. B. Roberts of Marshall captain today. Cold weather from Macon down to Ocala. You know how riding long distances affect you. One fellow stayed too long at a rest room and the bus left him. Secretary Cham ber of Commerce came to the res cue and speeded him in hist car to overtake the bus. A jolly bunch of fellows. Dr. Washburn of Lake Lure and Dr. MjcCracken of Way nesville looking after our health. Florida officials met us below Val dosta. Governor Fred Cone and Mayor George Douglas gave us a warm welcome at Lake City where we met with Rotary and Senator Bacon made up his attendance. Mayor Ben Douglas of Charlotte was our chairman at the meeting. Said he had been reading the smallest daily newspaper in the world and called on me to explain how people living in Tryon could have yachts in Florida. Well, I couldn’t take up Governor Cone’s time to tell all I wanted to say about Tryon so I handed him a copy of the special edition of the Bulletin .... Governor Cone received the homespun suit.
