Tryon High Defeats
Sunny View 16 to 12

The Tryon high quintet won its
14th victory of the season last
night when Sunny View was down
ed in a rough and tumble game
at the Columbus gym. The play
was hard fought and agressive with
Tryon leading the county quint ex
cept for a brief period at the be
ginning of the game and the fourth
quarter when Sunny View took a
short one point lead. Both teams
played excellent ball throughout
with the entire group exhibiting
good basketball. Vining turned in
a good defensive game, for Tryon,
while Harris was Sunny View's
big gun with six points to lead
in scoring. Summary:
Tryon (16) —McFarland 4; D.
Beatson 5; Vining 4; Taylor 3;
Melton 0.
Sunny View (12) —Harris 5 6;

Adams-Millis basketeers split
their games in the tournament at
Spartanburg Wednesday. The boys
lost the'rs 35 to 27 to the Southern
Franklin Process of Greenville and
the local girls won over Gayle Mill
of Chester 21 to 14.
Judge C. C. Wyche continued un
t'l Monday the petition of J. Von
Robinson for the return of a car
confiscated by federal agents. Part
of the petition was heard by the
court Wednesday afternoon.—Spar

Mrs. Lydia W. Strong
Mrs. Lydia W. Strong, 94, widow
of the late Major W. E. Strong,
died early this morning at her
home on M,elrose Circle. Funeral
services will be held on Friday at
11 a. m., at the Erskine Memorial
Congregational church with the
pastor, Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln,
officiating. Interment in Tryon
cemetery.

Whitaker Rites At
Balfour Today
Hendersonville, Feb. 28.—Funer
al services for SL Paul Whitaker,
of Mountain Home, who was fatal
ly injured in a fall at Statesville
Tuesday, will be held at the Bal
four church at 2 o’clock Thursday
afternoon.
Mr. Whitaker, the son of Mr. snd
Mrs. O. P. Whitaker of Mbuntain
Home, died in the Charlotte Sana
torium after a 15-foot fall from a
scaffold on which he was painting.
The Rev. Carl Blythe and the
Rev. W. S. Hutchinson will con
duct the services. Burial will be
in Hooper’s Creek cemetery.
Surviving are his parents, his
widow, Mrs. She Brittoh Whitaker,
