Eat. 1-31-28 TRYON, N C., WED., MARCH 27, 1940 Gymkhana Thursday At Harmon Field \ The annual Spring Gymkhana, I£)A;he burlesque horse event of the season, will be held at Harmon Field on Thursday afternoon be ginning at 2:30. A variety of entertaining events are being planned including keg and can race, nursery, night shirt, mule, mule polo, musical chairs and Gretna Green races. Roy Shelley will also present his train ed trick pony, Spot, for added entertainment. Lewis Bredin of Detroit will be the chairman of the Gymkhana and he will be assisted by the fol lowing committee: Lefty Flynn, of Little Orchard; Rufus Zogbaum, of Mizzen Top; Mrs. Franklin Parker, of New York and the Cot ton Patch; Miss Betty White of Clark’s Summit, Pa., and Many Levels; Arthur Reynolds of the ~>Tryon Hounds; Mrs. D. D. Hede /•Jcin of Atlanta and Blackberry '^ F Hill; Mrs. James A. Blackwood of Detroit and the Hunting Country; Mrs. Sam Abernathv of Bronxville, N. Y., and Burnt Chimney; Ernst Mahler of Neenah, Wis., and Chin quapin Farm; Walter C. Hill of Saginaw, Mich., and Many Levels. Promptness Asked On Horse Show Reservations Chairman George A. Cathey, of the Reservations Committee asks that all those who have made reservat’ons for the 15th Annual Tryon Horse & Hound Show come in and pay for these reservations at once. In doing this, they will help to avoid mistakes and a last minute rush. Junior Horsemanship Show Held Tuesday The second annual Tryon Junior Horsemanship show was held on Tuesday afternoon at the New market ring before an interested crowd of spectators from many sections of the country including some visitors on their spring va cations from college and school. Tryon Boy Scouts parked approxi mately 50 cars. The show was directed by Mrs. David Hedekin and the Judges weie Lewis Bredin and Mrs. James A. Blackwood, both of Detroit, who were assisted by Miss Betty White of Clark’s Summit, Pa., as sec retary. C. J. Lynch was ring master and Arthur Reynolds had charge of the entries. The judges did a thorough job of testing each child individually, marking them not only on their proficiency in riding but upon their knowledge of horse and equipment. Ribbons and trophies were do nated by Mr. and Mrs.. Ernst Mah ler and were presented to the winners by Mrs. Mjahler. The results were as follows: Class No. 1, Horsemanship— Ist place, Tommy Carpenter, Minnea polis, Minn.; 2nd, Mollie Washburn, Tryon; 3rd, Franklin Delano Nan ney, Tryon; 4th, Deborah Wilson, Tryon. Also riding in this class was Alan Kuykendall, of Tryon, who was not only the youngest contes tant, but also the newest rider, for this was the second time that he had ever been on a horse.
