Meets at Sunnydale * The Horse Show committee chair frtaen met at Sunnydale on Wednes *\«ay evening for a final check-up and discussion of the big event on April 17th, at Harmon Field. A number of improvements will be made for the event according to the Grounds chairman, Walter C. Hill. A new information booth, new photographer’s stand. The box seats in the rear will be rais ed several inches so that back seats will present a better view of the Show. Calcium chloride will be put on the Harmon Fiel.d roads to keep the dust down. A new “set up” for the lun cheon committee was announced by Mrs. M. B. Flynn. No box lunches this year, but instead delicious fresh sandwiches, coffee, fruit and ice cream will be sold on stands. The music for the Horse Show 4 at Oak Hall on Tuesday night, l/Lpril 16th, will be furnished by Bill Strinkfellow’s orchestra. The dance committee reported that plans are being made to have th's the outstanding social affair of the season. Many other reports were given, showing that everything is well organized for this year’s Show. REMOCRAT RALLY AT TRYON ON FRIDAY Rally meeting of the Democrats of Trvon Township will be held on Friday night at 7:30 at Mis sddine’s Hall. All Democrats in the township are invited to attend. C. J. Lynch will be the chief speaker. TRYON, N C., THURSDAY, MAR. 28, 1940 County Recreation Director Secured The .employment of Sam Dobson as part-time director of recreation in Polk County marks a step that promises in time to put this County in the front rank of all rural Counties in the country which are engaged in supervised recreation. It is made possible by a gift of SSOO from one person to the Polk County Council of Social Agencies for the specific purpose of pro moting rural recreation. The re creation committee of the Council, Rev. W. P. Jackson, announces that, through the willing cooperation of J. A. Wilson, County Farm Agent, and the Counjy Board of Com missioners, Mr. Dobson, who has been doing an especially fine piece of work as Assistant County Farm Agent, has been released from part of his duties that he may under take a program of instruction in recreation as a part time director. Mr. Dobson, who has a decided aptitude for directing recreation, has for some time been taking in struction from Mr. Jackson, form er field secretary of the National Recreation Association. Under the leadership of Mr. Jackson, a normal class of some fifty young people from all parts of the County has been meeting for more than a year. There is a demand for more classes and a great opportunity for widening the field of instruction. It is Mr. Jack son’s hope to set up an Institute in Dramatics under a competent and widely experienced teacher in this field.
