Eat. 1-31-28 CURB REPORTER Have just finished eating some apples from Albert Salley’s Apple Valley at Saluda. The unusual thing about these apples is that they are good without having been on cold storage. The air at Salu da is so cool throught the warm periods of this section that Mr. Salley can keep his apples in a large storage basement which al so protects the fruit against win ter weather .... Farmers Fed eration have given permission to the Town to have automobiles parked on their vacant lot across the railroad during the showings of Gone With The Wind. Chief Kiser states that the Town officers are glad to cooperate with the public .... The two-ball mixed foursome golf tournament sche duled at the Tryon Country Club on Friday should be interesting. Every player starts with a handi cap, but he or she as the case may be will have selected drives if you know what that means. If Mr. Brown and Miss Smith are playing as partners and Miss Smith drives a ball to better position and it is Mr. Brown’s time to play he can play from her posi tion and let the caddy look for his ball in the creek or rough and other places golfers drive balls. The tournament on Friday will be for nine holes . . . The Garden club has appointed the following com mittee to serve' as judges of the work done by the students: For posters, Mrs. Edsall, Mrs. Aud, Mrs. Brundage. For essays anl achievement books, Mrs. Bowen, Miss Harper, Mrs. Parsons. For room projects, Mrs. Vining, Mrs. Sprague, Mrs. Dobbyn. W. S. Green at Rotary Dr. W. SI Green will be in charge of the Tryon Rotary club program on Friday at 1 p. m. at Sunydale. Important public ques tions will be discussed. Mrs. L. M. Morgan Mrs. L. M. Morgan, 57, of the M,t. Page section died Wednesday night at her home after a linger ing illness. Funeral servces were held this afternoon at 3:30 at Mt. Page church. The deceased is survived by her husband, two sons and one daughter. 4-H CORONATION On Saturday afternoon, April 6th, the healthiest boy and girl in the 4-H clubs of Polk County will be crowned king and queen of health at Harmon Field. The pro gram will begin at 2:30 o’clock in the afternoon with athletic con tests between the clubs followed by the Coronation and recreation.
