Expensive Flowers Justice Giles Pearson had four in his court this weekend picking wild flowers within 303 feet of a public road. The thre; men from Spartanburg and the one woman from Greenville had to pay a total of $35.10 in costs for 'the privileges of picking a few flowers near the roadside. If you have any friends who don’t know about this law here is a copy to give to them: Section 4301 (a) of the Code fn~ North Carolina, INJURY TO TREES, WOODS, CROPS, etc.. NEAR HIGHWAY; DEPOSIT ING TRASH NEAR HIGH WAY. Any person, not being oh his own lands, or without the consent of the owner thereof, who shall, within one hundred yards of any State Highways of North Carolina' or within a like distance of -pother public road or highway, will •<J|fully commit any damage, injury, or spoilation to or upon any tree, wood, underwood, timber, garden, crops, vegetables, plants, lands, springs, or any other matter or thing growing or being thereon, or who breaks, injures or removes any tree, plant, or flower within such limits, or shall deposit any trash, debris, garbage, or litter within such limits, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction fined not exceeding fifty dollars ($50.00) or imprisoned not ex ceeding.,3o days. Trycn Federal Savings & Loan Association chartered on August 16, 1935, with only a few thou sand dollars capital stock has had such rapid growth that today its assets are listed at over $250,000. Financial leaders all over the state are congratulating the local or ganization on its splendid record. The association here is headed by F. P. Bacon, president; W. S. Green, vice-president; M. R. Mc- Cown, secretary-treasurer; Julian' B. Hester and Walter C. Hill, directors. . The service the local institution has rendered to local home build ers has inspired its great growth. President O. K. Laßoque of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Win ston-Salem writes to Secretary- Treasurer M. R. McCown of the Tryon Association as follows: “Dear Mr. McCown: “Your association’s report for the month ending March 30th has come to my attention. According to the same assets now exceed a quarter of a million dollars, to be exact, $251,650.08. These results prompt me to extend my congra tulations on the extent of the ser vice which the association is ren dering in your section of the State in developing home owner ship and providing for invest ment and savings accounts. We recall at this time that your char ter was issued August 16, 1935, less than five years ago, and in view of the results which hav > already been accomplished we feel sure that the institution will fur ther expand its service and useful- Continued on Back Page
