Many people from all siaes have
been high in their praise of the
Tryon-Saluda high school band
which gives a free concert on Fri
day night at 8 o’clock at the Tryon
school auditorium. These people
seemed to be surprised that the
band is so good . . . Today is the
94th birthday of Mrs. D. H. Wil
liams who came to Tryon many
years ago to operate what is now
Oak Hall hotel .... A number
of Tryon Rotarians went to Ashe
ville today to put on the Rotary . . .

norts that progress is being mad 3

|HLnds with which to carry on
in the Piedmont Council.
This Council operates the camp
at Lake Lanier. It is said by na
tional leaders to be one of the best
camps of its kind in the country.
.... Sbftball is in the air now.
It is a game old and young can
enjoy with pleasure and benefit,
and these Thursday afternoons off
during the summer are going to
see many games .... The Adams-
Millis regular baseball team will
play Brevard on Saturday, 18th,
at Harmon Field
Tryon High School softball
team defeated the Adams-Millis
softball team 30-7 on Wednesday
afternoon at Harman Field.

District Club Women
Met In Columbus
The Home Demonstration Club
women of District No. 2 held their
annual meeting on Tuesday at Co
lumbus from 10:30 a. m., to 4 p.
m. The meeting was held in the
Stearns auditorium, lunch in the
gymnasium, stunts and game's on
the Courthouse lawn. W. P. Jack
son conducted a recreational pro
gram of folk dancing. The gym
nasium and auditorium were at
tractively decorated for the occa
sion with ivy, bamboo, etc. Among
the speakers were A. C. Kinney,
State College, Raleigh, who spoke
on the importance of the cow to
the family; Mirs. Esther G. Willis,
district agent and Miss Anna C.
Rowe, district agent, both of
Raleigh. Music for the occasion
was directed by Mrs. G. V. TiPev
of Columbus with Mrs. T. E. Swain
as the accompanist. The lunch
was prepared by the Baptist an I
Methodist Missionary Societies of
Mil 1 Spring.

Os great regret to her friends
in Tryon will be the news of the
death of Mrs. Nellie Carter who
was in the Stanford Crano house
hold for many years. M;rs. Carter
died at the home of her son,
Richard Carter. 1727 Hollywood
Street, Grosse Pointe, Mich. The
funeral service will be at the
Congregational church, in Grand
Blanc, Mich., at 2 o’clock on
Thursday.
