Try on Population 363
Over Last Census
Mayor E. E. Missildine of Try
on, Mayor H. L. Capps of Saluda,
and Mayor John Burgess of Co
lumbus have been notified by Cen
sus Supervisor Chas. Z. Flack of
the preliminary result of the re
cent census taken in their respec
tive towns. According to the re
ports (Subject to Correction) Try
on has gained 363 more people
since April 1, 1930, when the popu
lation was listed then at 1,670.
The new figure is 2.033. This in
cludes only the people within the
town limits and does not take in
all the newcomers in the Valley,
Pacolet Hills, Hunting Country,
Lvnn Road beyond the rock bridge.
Wilderness Road, Country Club
section, Lake Lanier, and much of
Gillette Woods.
Columbus the county seat has
. 50 people, jumping from
1*340 to 390.
Saluda lost 21, dropping from
558 to 537, but this does not in
clude the immediate section around
Saluda whose beautiful knolls and
peaks are attracting summer home
seekers. The area between Colum
bus and Mill Spring is also grow
ing.
No Blackout of Mercy
Polk County is making a great
response to the desperate needs of
people in war-ruined areas of
Europe. Thte morning gifts to the
Red Cross War Relief Fund
amounted to $1,171.48. Os this
amount $5.01 came from the Ti'yon
colored school for the National
Children’s Fund, a fine response.
