Eat. 1-31-28 TRYON. N C., WEDNESDAY, MAY 29, 1940 National War Relief Quota Doubled It is $1,400 now that Polk County is asked to contribute to the Na tional War Relief Fund of $20,- Treasurer J. B. Hester of the local chapter of the Red Cross reports $1,349.48 received to date, or within $50.52 of double the original quota. President Nor man H. Davis of the National Red Cross in a telegram received this morning says, “Impossible to de scribe pitiful plight of millions of refugees in France, sick,, wound ed, hungry, homeless. They cry to us for help. Chapters where possible should double their quota. In fact only limitation should be the maximum generosity of Ameri can people.” Golfers Leave Town . About 20 Tryon golfers will go to Moi’ganton on Thursday to par ticipate in the first inter-city golf tournament of the Piedmont Golf composed of the Clubs w of Tryon, Morganton, Lake Lure, Shelby, Forest City and Spartan burg. All golfers making the trip ere requested to meet at the Tryon Count”v Club at 12 noon and con tact Pro Larry Brooks. Landrum Drug Company Sold The Landrum Drug Company, formerly owned bv Archie Black mon. has been sold to Dr. R. B. McKinley of Gaffnev, S. C.
