RION—SAYRE
Miss Geraldine Sayre, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Charles N. Sayre
and Mr. Daniel Stevenson Rion, son
of Mrs. James H. Rion and the late
Mr. Rion, were married at 10
o'clock this morning at the Ers
kine Memorial Congregational
church. The ceremony was per
formed by the bride’s pastor, Dr.
0. Arthur Lincoln. The bride was
attended by her sister, Mrs. Frank
Kennedy of Bloomington, Ind., as
matron of honor. The bride-groom’s
brother, Mr. James Rion of Kings
port, Tennessee, was best man.
The ushers were Messrs. Ed
ward Sayre, Earle Rion, Earle
Tisdale and Jim Keine.
Nuptial music on the organ was
played by Mrs. E. E. Missildine.
The church was attractively
decorated with a pink and white
motif of polyantha roses, larkspur
and baby breath. The altar back
ground was decorated with large
nalm leaves.
The bride entered on the arm
of her father who gave her in
marriage.
Following a wedding trio to an
unannounced destination Mr. and
Mrs. Rion will be at home in
Athens, Georgia, on June 15th. The
bride-groom is a graduate of Try
on high school and of North Caro
lina State college. He is a district
representative of the National Oil
Products Company of New Jersey.
The bride was the valedictorian
of her class in the Tryon high
school and is a graduate of the
Wontan’s College University of
North Carolina.
CHARLES GURLEY
News has been received in Try
on of the death of Charles T. Gur
ley, 54, after a longSURDLUL
lev. 54, at Charleston, West Vir
ginia, after a long illness. Burial
at Charleston on Sunday after
noon at 3 o’clock. Mr. Gurley was
a brother of Mrs. Jim Moore of
Tryon. He was a native of ~Polk
County and lived for many years
in Spartanburg. He had made his
home in West Virginia for the
east 18 years and was engaged in
the shoe business. He is survived
his widow, the former Miss Rose
Thomas of Spartanburg, and six
children.
Mrs. Banning To Speak
At Parish House
Mrs. Margaret Culkin Banning,
noted author of many books and
articles on social and economic
problems, will be the chief speak
er tonight at 8 o’clock at the
Parish House. The meeting is
open to the public and is sponsor
ed by citizens interested in civilian
preparedness. Admission is free.
Mrs. William McKenny, nee Vir
ginia Pearson, and Miss Julia
Pearson of Washington, D. C., are
visiting their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Giles Pearson at Melrose.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. R. McDowell
of Charlotte are occupying the F.
J. McDonald house on M'arkham
road.
Eighteen Tryon Golfers went to
Morganton on Thursday and play
ed in the first inter-city golf tour
nament promoted by the Piedmont
Golf Association of which E. C.
Rowe of Tryon is president. The
local golfers were high in their
praise of the beautiful Mimosa
golf course. The Tryon team lost
the first tournament.
