Kst. 1-31-28 The Town Meeting (Contributed) The first of Tryon’s Town Meet ings was held at the Parish House night. The auditorium Kwas packed to overflowing. Mrs. Margaret Culkin Banning, the speaker, was introduced by Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln, after a pre liminary announcement by C. J. Lynch, in which he stressed the necessity for confidence in our leaders here, in the State and in Washington. Without this, he said, there would be much wasted effort in the conduct of affairs in the present crisis. Dr. Lincoln stated that Mrs. Banning had consented to speak after considerable urging on the part of the Committee who were conducting the meeting. Her exposition of the situation was distinguished by clarity and an intimate knowledge of detad and a comprehensive presentation of what should be the attitude of P every American. Slhe outlined at considerable length what has been done by the Government, since last September, what is being done now, and what is to be done in the immediate future. Some stress was laid on the necessity for refraining from any form of hysteria, and the desir ability of co-operation by all in a concerted effort to aid prepared ness in all branches of the Govern ment. With respect of the “fifth col umn” activities to be expected, she stated that a communication from an ex member of the Department of Justice instructed that any evi dence of subversive activity or of Continued on Page Three.
